Teenagers should be taught the value to spend money wisely. Because of their age and due to peer pressure, they usually buy and spend money a lot without even minding the value of money.They must learn to live within their means.

This is best to work so that they will be forced to learn how to allot their money for their own expenses. This works as long as you remain firm with the decision of not giving them extra money in case they will consume their allowance before giving them the next allowance.

A record of expenses will also help to track the expenses.You must make sure that your teens know what their money is to include, and make sure they have enough to cover it, otherwise it won’t be fair to them. Also, do not expect their allowance to cover their tuition fees and other transactions that you as a parent should cover.Show them how to keep a record of all their debits and credits, just the way it would be recorded on a bank statement. Knowing the record of their expenses may also help you gauge if your teens are spendthrift or not. In this way, you will help your teens be reminded of the value of saving instead of spending money in unimportant ways.

You may also have to explain how they need to save a certain amount because there are certain debts coming up that they will be expected to pay. Just make sure your teenagers know exactly what is expected of them. This will depend on how mature your teen is. Some teens seem to become more responsible than others.

Open a bank or savings account for your teens where you can simply transfer their allowance every month. They can withdraw the money they need.This works for the security of the money you give your teen.

Once your teenagers have developed the habit of becoming wise in handling their money, use the reward system. You may give them a treat or you may double the amount of what they may save from their allowance. This will give them encouragement to keep up the good work.

Train your teens in spending money the right way so they will be able to know that the value of money is to be earned and to be worked hard for.
