Retirement

Real estate is always a good investment. Retirement ages are being increased, company schemes are being plundered and income from state pensions are in the lap of the gods. If you are happy with your retirement outlook using conventional wisdom then I sincerely wish you luck. If not then perhaps it’s time to think outside the box.

There may be many reasons for early retirement, but ill health or becoming the carer of someone with ill health is a common one and with the increases in retirement ages, it is set to become even more common.

Unless you have a lot more money than sense, you will want to make sure you know what your options are and which one is best for you. Your retirement should be a happy occasion, but mistakes can turn it into a nightmare. You owe it to yourself and any dependants to be informed. Obviously everyone’s circumstances are different and you have to keep in mind that anyone offering to sort it out for you may well be more concerned about a commission than your best interests.

Have you got what it takes? It is not easy to ‘pull up sticks’ and no one would expect you to do it without a good reason. So what do you need?

- A burning desire to better your retirement prospects.
- A reasonable degree of self-sufficiency.
- A willingness to learn new things.
- Roughly about £100,000 equity or more.
